Michael Lee Myvett was involved in the tragic bus accident on April 10th, 2014. The Bus was struck by a FedEx tractor trailer about 100 miles north of Sacramento on the night, authorities said. The students were traveling from the Los Angeles area for a program at Humboldt State University. They represented 31 Southern California high schools participating in “Spring Preview Plus,” which offers low-income and first-generation prospective students a glimpse of college life. Michael and his new Fiancee Mattison Haywood, was serving as a chaperone on the bus during the crash killing 10 people, including five high school students, three chaperones and the drivers of both vehicles.
Myvett was a graduate of Humboldt State University in Arcata, California in 2007 and 2009, and was planning on going back to receive his Masters Degree. Myvett wanted to be a psychologist and hoped to make an impact on the lives of others. His alma mater was Humboldt State, where he was taking prospective students. He also worked with children at the Center for Autism and Related Disorders in west Los Angeles. Michael is the beloved son of Tamiko and Andre Island, and leaves behind his two younger brothers Bill and Rothell. Michael had just proposed to his Fiancee on Christmas 2013 in Paris and is truly missed by friends and family. Myvett’s mother Tamiko has started a foundation in his memory The Michael Myvett’s “Living The Dream” foundation where you can also donate clothing, food, blankets, hygienes and much more to feed the homeless.
